UNC Promoting “Healthy Lifestyles” against Covid-19 in Tabaquite

In the fight against Covid-19, some have argued that there is not enough emphasis on the promotion of healthy bodies and immune systems. Henry Awong is an exception.

As Chairman for the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation (CTTRC) and Councillor for Piparo/San Pedro/Tabaquite, Awong has been promoting healthy lifestyles to aid in the fight against COVID-19.

With this in mind, Chairman Awong has upgraded the Upper Tabaquite Recreation Ground and rebranded it as the “Family Wellness Ground.” The new grounds boasts of the installation of new outdoor exercise equipment and a walking/jogging track to facilitate outdoor exercise activities for residents.

Thirteen (13) Fruit trees were planted on the perimeter of the ground for both beautification purposes and to provide healthy fruits to residents. This all constitutes part of our Wellness concept.

This period of Covid-19 pandemic has certainly caused us to rethink our lifestyle decisions. It is seen that persons with co-morbidities, like diabetes, heart problems, obesity, comprise the disadvantaged segment of the population.

Chairman Awong hopes that the Family Wellness Ground will encourage residents to get their daily intake of fresh air and sunlight while exercising, thereby strengthening their bodies’ immune system to fight this virus.

He intends to continue this Family Wellness concept in other communities throughout the region to encourage health and lifestyle consciousness via the use of physical activity and diet, so that families survive this pandemic together, whilst maintaining good health long after this pandemic has ended.

Chairman Awong firmly believes that “Your Health is your Wealth.”
